OUR MISSION:
Julie Rohr Academy's mission is to provide a motivating, challenging, creative, and enjoyable learning climate in a safe, caring, family atmosphere. We strive to provide our students with strong academic skills, problem-solving techniques, performing arts experiences, athletic activities, and emotional security. It is our goal to prepare our students to become capable, cooperative, contributing members of society.

CENTER FOR MUSICAL THEATRE:
The Center for Musical Theatre at Julie Rohr Academy was formed to encourage and support students from Pre-School through 8th grade to excel in performing arts. The Center also provides quality entertainment for the community, but the reasons for doing shows go far beyond giving audiences an enjoyable evening. Performances are done for the children, and what they gain from these experiences could never come out of a textbook! They learn responsibility, develop self-confidence, and feel tremendously successful.
Tax deductible funding opportunities allow more resources to be allocated for our mission. The ultimate beneficiaries are the students and the community.
This year the musical we will be performing is "The Music Man." read more >
OUR PHILOSOPHY:
Julie Rohr Academy is a private, non-denominational school for students ages two through eighth grade. The philosophy of Julie Rohr Academy is to offer a quality education while providing an extended family atmosphere for our students, families and faculty. Our school focuses on fulfilling students' individual needs so they are able to progress academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. Students are encouraged to develop independent, creative critical thinking and problem solving skills and to work cooperatively with their peers. read more >

The Music Man

Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" was an amazing production! The show took place on Friday, May 21st, on the beautiful Sarasota Opera House stage and was sponsored by The Center For Musical Theatre at Julie Rohr Academy. There were 150 in the cast including the youngest performers at age three and the oldest at age seventy.
The gorgeous drops were flown in from California and Indiana, the period costumes were perfect, and the performers were awesome. In addition to doing a memorable performance and thoroughly entertaining the audience, the students came up with many other benefits derived from the show experience like
building confidence, learning responsiblilty and patience, developing public speaking skills, and learning to work cooperatively. It truly was a wonderful experience for everyone involved!Click on thumbnails to view a larger version

Artsonia: View Your Child's Artwork Online
Julie Rohr Academy has become a member of Artsonia.com, the largest online student art museum. Artsonia showcases artwork from thousands of schools around the world. Our goal is to develop students’ pride and self-esteem, increase their multicultural understanding through art and involve parents and relatives in student education and accomplishments.
Artsonia preserves students’ privacy and anonymity by listing the artwork only under the student’s first name and a number. Last names are never revealed. If you do not want your child’s artwork to be published online, please advise our art teacher, Katina Shanahan, and any information pertaining to your child will be removed. -
Sarasota County Fair Art Exhibit
Congratulations to all of our artists who submitted artwork to the Sarasota County Fair Art Exhibit. JRA students won twenty-four 1st Place Ribbons, twenty-five 2nd Place Ribbons, fifteen 3rd Place Ribbons, and fifteen Honorable Mentions.
One of the reasons our students won so many art awards is because of our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Shanahan and another is because of the frequency of the art classes. I do not think there is ANY public school that offers daily classes in art, music, PE, Spanish and computer and very few private schools offer these daily either. But we feel these classes are IMPERATIVE to have a well-rounded and confident child, so we will continue these classes as other schools cut them out. This is one of the important differences at JRA. The family atmosphere and the strong performing arts program are the other major differences. -
JRA won the Sarasota County Speech Contest!
We are very excited to announce that Julie Rohr Academy was the only private school to participate in the Sarasota County Speech Contest and WON! Eight public elementary schools and three public middle schools participated. Participating schools hold classroom contests and from the classroom winners, a school-wide contest is held. The school winner participates in the county contest. There are two divisions – Elementary (4th and 5th grade) and Middle School (6th) grade. We were the only school to have entries at both levels. The contest was held April 14th and Julie Rohr Academy’s contestants BOTH won first place! It was a sweep! Congratulations to 4th grader Thomas Sinclair and 6th grader Axel Hawkins. They have much to be proud of! Of course, their teachers, families, classmates, and principal could not be more proud of them as well!
