HISTORY:
Julie Rohr Academy opened in 1974 as a small day care center with seventeen children. Since that time, it has grown substantially to meet the needs of the community. We now serve 170 students and have extended care available before and after school. With great demands currently being placed on the public school system, it is rewarding to offer an exciting, refreshing alternative.
OUR MISSION:
Julie Rohr Academy's mission is to provide a motivating, challenging, creative, and enjoyable learning climate in a safe, caring, family atmosphere. We strive to provide our students with strong academic skills, problem-solving techniques, performing arts experiences, athletic activities, and emotional security. It is our goal to prepare our students to become capable, cooperative, contributing members of society.
OUR PHILOSOPHY:
Julie Rohr Academy is a private, non-denominational school for students ages 18 months through eighth grade. The philosophy of Julie Rohr Academy is to offer a quality education while providing an extended family atmosphere for our students, families and faculty. Our school focuses on fulfilling students' individual needs so they are able to progress academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. Students are encouraged to develop independent, creative critical thinking and problem solving skills and to work cooperatively with their peers.

Sarah Jane - Camille GoldenNational School Choice WeekThis week, Jan. 27 through Feb. 2, Julie Rohr Academy will be joining schools across the Nation in celebrating National School Choice Week. In honor of this celebration, we are inviting parents of students in kindergarten through 8th grade to join us for lunch and activities in the Reading Garden from 11:30 - 1:00. A "celebration" lunch of pizza, drink, and dessert will be provided for the parents. Our treat! Students can use their lunch tickets to order pizza. You could also bring a bag lunch to share with your child if you wish.
Students are asked to wear a JRA t-shirt or a yellow t-shirt (the official color of the national celebration). Students will be recognized for different things, such as the student who has been here the longest, the student who had parents (grandparents?) who attended JRA, etc. Songs will be sung and balloons (biodegradable ones, of course!) released. A photo will be taken for the JRA website. We deeply appreciate that you as parents have exercised your right to choose us, a private school. We are proud that we have been a part of the Sarasota community for 38 years, a member of the John McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities program for 8 years, and a member of the Florida Corporate Tax Scholarship program for 3 years. Thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children. Please let the office know by 1/30 if you will be attending so we can get an accurate count to order the pizza. We sincerely hope you can join us!Basketball
Our boys basketball team won the Florida Suncoast League Boys Basketball Championship! We played SSAS for the championship and won 48 to 43. What an exciting game it was! The score went back and forth and it was either teams win right up to the end. Great game guys and congratulations to Brion, Shelby, Nick, Beau, Cameron, Thomas and Logan!!

Nursery to 8th grade classes will be assigned a Team Color and we will be encouraging each class to make Team banners and pennants in their class color to show their team spirit! Our New Flag
Larry Walding, a member of our JRA family for many years, father to Kristen Walding and grandfather to 6th grader Hayley Walding, replaced our flag and the rope attached so that the flag would hang properly.Larry is a retired Navy Seal with the United States Navy. He served in the Vietnam War. The proper care and respect for our country’s flag is something he learned in the Navy.
The staff, student body, and their families thank you, Larry, so very, very much.
