Dear Nursery Parents,

Welcome to Julie Rohr Academy’s 2007 Summer Camp! We are looking forward to a summer of learning and fun. Our most important goal is to help children learn the social skills they will use throughout their lives. These skills include sharing, using words to communicate, and acting appropriately in a social setting. We encourage each child to explore and discover the world around them in an environment where they are safe and feel loved.

The nursery program is flexible and accommodates children who come to school from two to five days a week. Children engage in a number of age-appropriate activities that foster the development of gross and fine motor skills, as well as cognitive and social skills. These activities occur during six specific class periods a day:  Art, Learning, Topic, P.E., Music, and DLM (Developmental Learning Materials). Classes are 30 minutes long and children transition between six classrooms, including our “Outdoor Classroom.”

The teachers in the nursery program recognize that two year olds have similar stages of development, but each child will reach important milestones at their own pace. We want the children in our program to progress through these stages in an atmosphere of love and guidance. Within this program, the two year olds at Julie Rohr Academy are encouraged to:

            1. Develop a healthy self-esteem and a sound concept of self

            2. Develop positive attitudes toward learning

            3. Transition smoothly from home to school

            4. Develop self-help skills

            5. Develop effective and appropriate communication skills

            6. Learn to play and interact in a positive manner with peers

            7. Develop gross and fine motor skills through age appropriate activities

            8. Begin to develop skills essential to academic success in future years, which include listening, following directions, taking turns, and completing tasks.

We look forward to working with your children this summer, and hope to see you during the next school year as well!

 Sincerely,

 Mrs. Susie Bulger
